High School Spirit

For those of you who have seen High School Musical, Glee, 17 Again, or one of the other billion movies that are made about American high schools, you may know how hyped up Americans can be about football, basketball, cheer, volleyball, etc. All those things you see are actually completely true. Nothing is exaggerated or fake (except for the food fights and the dancing on tables maybe).
Football season is amazing, every Friday night is "Friday night football night". The student section dresses up in a specific theme (ex. neon, white, pink for breast cancer awareness month, American themed). The cheerleaders have an incredible routine and the students have lots of cheers for the football guys. After the second quarter of the game the marching band plays on the field (and trust me, they are amazing). I still don't really understand how football works, but that's not the point of these nights.. only the players need to know what to do ;).

Football season is over now, but that means it's soccer season! My host sister Gracie plays in the varsity soccer team, so I can cheer for her on the sideline.
I also think spirit week is important to mention. I hadn't even heard of this before I made the decision to go to America. It's the week prior to homecoming (a big football game and dance), where the students show their school spirit. Every day of the week has a theme and you dress up accordingly.

This still doesn't feel real.. this is what you see in the movies. It’s not something that happens at your school, in your hometown. I'm so incredibly thankful I got the chance to experience all of this, because this is amazing and I wouldn't want to miss it for the world.

Thanks for reading! ♡
