A new family, new friendships, a new school and another continent. I think this describes well what my new life has in store for me. In a month my American adventure will start!
First of all, thank you for visiting my blog! Via this blog I'd like to share all my stories en pictures with you, in that way you can be a part of my exchange adventure a little.
Why I'm going on a High School Exchange Year
When I was in 10th grade I went to open days for my study. I hadn't come across any study that sparked my interest yet. Then my mom suggested to take a gap year, because 1: I didn't know what I wanted to study yet and 2: I'd be 16 when I start my study and that's fairly young. We checked the options for a gap year in Australia, but that didn't really appeal to me. What I did know was that I wanted to go to a place far away from The Netherlands, so we checked the possibilities in America. First I considered working as an Au Pair. But if you want to be an Au Pair you have to be at least 18 years old and you also usually experience less of the local culture, because you're mostly busy with the kids (which is also super fun to do). Then I wondered if high school maybe the right thing for me. It seemed liked the perfect experience before going to college, because, well, an extra year of high school wouldn't hurt anybody and, most importantly, I can learn a lot about another culture. I went to information seminars of several exchange agencies in July. Eventually I chose EF! In August I had an interview with EF in English whether I qualified for the program. And a few days later I got a call with the news that I was accepted into the High School Exchange program!!
Love,
Amy
